Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to wear a uniform?

No, we only require our instructors to wear uniforms. Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing suitable for the climate in Florida.

Will I have to pay for all of my training in advance?
No, for individual licenses and ratings you will be expected to pay 50% of the course fee within 5 days of your arrival. When your account falls below a credit balance of $1,000 we will notify you to deposit the balance within 5 days. For students enrolling in the Professional courses your course fee will be split evenly into 5 payments. The first payment is due within 5 days of your arrival, the other payments are due when your account falls below a credit balance of $1,000.

Can I get a loan for my training?
Flight training loans are available through SLM® Career Training Program. Interest rates are as low as 1% above prime and the terms are extremely favorable including an option to defer payment for up to 12 months. The program is open to US citizens and Permanent Residents (PR's) who have a US social security number. Foreign students may still be able to qualify for financing if a US citizen or PR co-signs the application. Further information on the SLM® Career Training Program is available here. A loan application can also be submitted by clicking here. Our school name, code and contact information is automatically submitted to save you time.

Why do the Instrument and Commercial courses cost more if taken in the Professional Pilot course?
Actually they don't. The Professional Pilot course is designed for a student with no flight experience. The Instrument rating requires that the pilot have a minimum of fifty hours cross country experience. During your training for the Private license you will log some cross country time but not fifty hours worth. So there will be a need to do some hour building after the completion of your Private license. The price for the individual course assumes that you have already met the hour requirements. It is the same with the Commercial license only instead of cross country time you will be building total time.

Can I get a job with just a Commercial license?
Yes, there are some jobs open to new Commercial pilots. Jobs such as banner towing, pipe line patrol, traffic watch, site seeing trips, etc.

Is there an advantage to being an instructor for my first job as a pilot?
Yes there is. There is no better way to keep knowledge fresh in your mind than to use it. As an instructor, of course you will be teaching others how to fly but you will also be teaching the rules and regulations that go along with flying. This knowledge is important no matter what type of flying you are doing. It is especially important if you want to make a career with a major air carrier.

Will I need transportation while I am training?
Not necessarily. Our airport lies within walking distance from the most popular accommdation. Short term students may want to rent a car as this gives the most flexibility. For long term students purchasing a used car is the most cost effective method of transportation, particularly if shared with another student(s). Most of our accommodation is located within 1/4 - 2 miles of the airport, so cycling may also be a option for some students.

What is the difference between Part 141 training and Part 61 training?
Part 141 or Part 61 refers to FAA flight training regulations. If a school has been inspected by the FAA and meets certain requirements they can be authorized to provide training under Part 141. If not, then training can only be conducted under Part 61. Notwithstanding the training system you choose, your license will be the same. One advantage of Part 141 training is that a license can be issued in fewer hours. For example, Private Pilot Part 141 training requies a minimum of 35 hours training whereas under Part 61 the minimum time increases to 40 hours.
