Ready for a NEW take-off with

VOYAGER AVIATION

Voyager Aviation International has been through some changes in the past few months. As you can witness the upgraded changes to our website, there have also been some upgraded changes to our fleet as well. In February, we decided it was time to move forward with a newer, better looking fleet, keeping only the strongest of our old aircraft. This decision came after experiencing an expensive maintenance year with an aging fleet. Nothing’s more frustrating to a flight school than looking out on the flight line and seeing it full of grounded aircraft. That had to change. It was time to say goodbye to even some of the beloved favorites. By April the new fleet was starting to form, and more are continually being added to the flight line. The new additions have been well accepted by all those who get the opportunity to fly them. If you haven’t visited Voyager in a while, stop in and see us…Join us in the refurbishing excitement!

Spot Landing Contest a great success!

 1st Place: Bob Barrows

The sun was bright, the winds were light and landings were spot on for the first Voyager Aviation International Spot Landing Competition at Merritt Island Airport on Saturday, August 13th 2011.  The aviation community, as well as public spectators, was treated to a great day at the Flight School.  A banner group of contestants took to the air for the competition.  Chief Instructor Pilot Patti Vest commented that “the quality of the contestants and landings were outstanding, and the bar has definitely been raised”.  The competition was a heated contest with competitors besting each other with better and more accurate landings as the day rolled on.

NEW  Light Sport Pilot License

If you are new to aviation, or if you have been out of it for a while, the Light Sport Pilot (LSA) certificate is a new term for you.  It is the largest growing section of general aviation.  It is an attractive alternative to those who are just getting started in flight training, or those who just want to fly recreational.  We are finding that many students that inquire about becoming a pilot choose to start with the LSA.

There are pro’s and con’s to the license.  On the pro side, the license is less expensive to acquire, and does not require a FAA medical certificate.  On the con side, it restricts the pilot to specific airplanes, only two passengers, and VFR day flights only.  Because the LSA license has restrictions, but can offer special training and instructor endorsements to authorize some of them, Voyager offers their own LSA syllabus that gives those extra endorsements to give the pilot more freedom.  With Voyager’s training, the transfer from a LSA Pilot certificate to a Private Pilot certificate is easy.  All of the LSA training counts toward the Private Pilot training if it’s done right.  We, here at Voyager, are doing it right.  Every lesson from the start is designed to make the transition easy for the customer if they want to add another pilot rating.  We know flight training is expensive, and we strive to give the highest quality training for every minute you are learning.
