Applicants for an Instrument Rating must hold at least a current ICAO recognized
Private Pilots License and a 3rd class medical certificate. At the time
of the flight test applicants should have a minimum of 50 hours cross-country
as pilot-in-command. FAA regulations require students to have received at
least 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time of which up to 20
hours can be accomplished on a PC training device (PC ATD-Elite). FAA regulations
also require that a cross-country flight consisting of 3 approaches at 3
different airports and a total distance of 250nm or more be completed. Full
time students will be able to complete the Instrument Rating in four to
five weeks.
Course Breakdown:
30 hours flight instruction plus 1.5 hours for the test.
10 hours PC ATD-Elite simulator.
25 hours ground instruction.
